Ferret
Ferrets, more simply known as just ferrets, are the only true domestic species in the Mustelid family. Closely resembling a weasel, this species is thought to be the descendent of the European polecat. Here at NJ Exotic Pets we only sell Marshall Farms ferrets; the number 1 ferret breeder in the USA. Fully grown, these animals generally reach around 25 inches in length and can weigh up to 5 pounds. Ferrets generally live between 7 and 10 years. These animals are extremely active and very affectionate. They require a lot of attention and they do best in pairs or small groups. These animals are only recommended for those with ample time to care for them.

Diet
○ Ferrets drink a fair amount of water and should always have access to it. Be sure to change your ferret’s water twice daily. ○ Ferrets are obligate carnivores which means they do not require any fruits or vegetables in their diets. Their major diet should consist of specialized ferret foods, poultry, eggs, and fish. Ferret diets such as Marshall, Wysong, or Zupreme are all suitable staple diets for a ferret. ○ Cooked or raw poultry, fish, and/or eggs all make for great treats or supplements to their diet. ○ Adding Marshall Furo-Tone and a multivitamin to a ferret’s diet is recommended. Both can be offered once a week.
Space
Ferrets require a vertically oriented enclosure and do best with having multiple levels to explore and move about. A single baby ferret or a pair of baby ferrets can be comfortably housed in an enclosure measuring 30Lx18Wx30H (in inches). An adult ferret or pair of adult ferrets can be safely housed in an enclosure measuring 40Lx22Wx56H (in inches) or larger. Many ferret owners also find success in letting their ferrets free roam their home. This can only be done with proper patience and training.
Overview
Sable Ferrets are the most recognizable and common ferret color morph, featuring dark brown to near-black guard hairs, a cream or white undercoat, and a distinctive dark mask around the eyes. They are domesticated ferrets (Mustela putorius furo) and share all the same care requirements as other ferret color morphs. Sables are energetic, intelligent, and affectionate. They are an excellent choice for those new to ferret ownership who want the classic ferret look. With proper care they live 7–10 years.
Personality & Qualities
Sable ferrets share the classic ferret personality — curious, playful, mischievous, and deeply bonded to their owners. They dook (a clucking vocalization) and perform war dances when excited. They love tunneling, exploring, and stealing small objects to stash. They are highly entertaining and affectionate companions.
Daily Care
Refresh food and water daily. Clean litter box daily. Provide 2–4+ hours of supervised free-roam. Play and interact daily. Weekly brushing. Nail trims every 8 weeks. Monthly ear cleaning.
