FerretIntermediateSmall Pets

Ferret

Ferrets, more simply known as just ferrets, are the only true domestic species in the Mustelid family. Closely resembling a weasel, this species is thought to be the descendent of the European polecat. Here at NJ Exotic Pets we only sell Marshall Farms ferrets; the number 1 ferret breeder in the USA. Fully grown, these animals generally reach around 25 inches in length and can weigh up to 5 pounds. Ferrets generally live between 7 and 10 years. These animals are extremely active and very affectionate. They require a lot of attention and they do best in pairs or small groups. These animals are only recommended for those with ample time to care for them.

7–10 years ○ Ferrets drink a fair amount of water and should always have access to it. Be sure to change your ferret’s water twice daily. ○ Ferrets are obligate carnivores which means they do not require any fruits or vegetables in their diets. Their major diet should consist of specialized ferret foods, poultry, eggs, and fish. Ferret diets such as Marshall, Wysong, or Zupreme are all suitable staple diets for a ferret. ○ Cooked or raw poultry, fish, and/or eggs all make for great treats or supplements to their diet. ○ Adding Marshall Furo-Tone and a multivitamin to a ferret’s diet is recommended. Both can be offered once a week. Family: Yes
